The 2023 Season’s Overview

A few weeks have passed since the last event of the 27th edition of “Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa”, the Festival which brought to Portoferraio and other municipalities over 60 musicians, including famous soloists and young talents. Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa celebrates another successful season: the overall audience for the two weeks of concerts increased by 15% compared to 2022. «We took a few days to calmly reflect on the progress of the latest edition of the Festival and the final balance can only be said to be positive», comments George Edelman, Artistic Director. «First of all, the decision to hold most of the concerts scheduled in Portoferraio in the De Laugier Cultural Center and in the Church of the Santissimo Sacramento, due to the unavailability of the Roman Villa of the Linguella and the Teatro dei Vigilanti for renovations, has not only proven valid, but has also paid us back with great results in terms of adaptation to the artistic proposals and in terms of the audiences’ experience”.
The chamber and symphonic concerts were also met with great appreciation. The latter featured the Elba Festival Orchestra, an ensemble comprising new talents and musicians of international standing which has confirmed its role as an important vehicle for exchange and training. Warm applause also went to artists who work in fields other than classical music, from jazz to Brazilian music. «The only disappointment for this year was the cancellation, due to bad weather, of the Musical Journey to Capraia, which we will certainly propose again next year. Just as we hope to be able to return to the Roman Villa della Linguella and, above all, to the Teatro dei Vigilanti, which we hope to be able to inaugurate again, after it was opened in 1997 for the first edition of our Festival. Finally, we will work to confirm all the partnerships in place, perhaps with some new entries, and we will continue our collaboration with the Friends of the Festival on the twentieth anniversary of the Elba Festival Prize”, adds George Edelman who, anticipating the artistic contents of the 28th edition of Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa, scheduled from 29 August to 14 September 2024, announces «a tribute to Claudio Abbado on the tenth anniversary of the death of the great conductor, with whom I had the pleasure and honor of working for a long time.”
This year the Festival has received considerable attention from the national and regional press, thanks also to the press conferences held in Florence with the President of the Region of Tuscany Eugenio Giani, and in Portoferraio with the Mayor Angelo Zini. The activity of the Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa website saw a 20% increase, while on the social media, in addition to a significant increase in followers, we have seen a decrease in the average age of users, especially on Instagram. An interesting consequence of the dialogue between the Festival and young generations, who were also present in large numbers at the concerts. Organized with the support of MiC – Ministry of Culture, the Region of Tuscany, the Municipalities of Portoferraio, Capoliveri, Marciana, Marciana Marina, Rio and with the collaboration and support of Visit Elba, the 27th edition of Elba Musical Island of Europe was also made possible thanks to the participation of our Sponsor Acqua dell’Elba.
Farewell to our public and rendez-vous on the Island of Elba in 2024!
