The Quartetto Indaco was founded in 2007 at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, under the guidance of Piero Farulli and Andrea Nannoni, and is today considered one of the most interesting and versatile Italian string quartets of its generation. Formed by Eleonora Matsuno and Ida Di Vita on violins, Jamiang Santi on viola, and Cosimo Carovani on cello, the ensemble has been described as “compact, full of polish and fervor, a true revelation” (Il Giornale di Vicenza) and capable of expressing “a wonderful radiance of sound, impeccable execution, perfect balance, and refinement” (R. Markow).
In 2023, Quartetto Indaco triumphed at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, one of the world’s most important competitions recognized by the World Federation of International Music Competitions, winning First Prize along with two special prizes. It was the first Italian quartet in history to achieve such a recognition – a testament to the ensemble’s artistic excellence and its free, creative spirit.
Particularly appreciated for its extraordinary communicative power, Quartetto Indaco stands out for the breadth of its repertoire – from classical to contemporary – with special attention to Italian composers and the musical languages of our time. A distinctive feature of the group is the presence of a “composer in residence,” cellist Cosimo Carovani, who writes original works and tailor-made arrangements for the ensemble, including the project Moto Contrario, dedicated to the theme of mental disabilities and supported by the European platform MERITA.
Guest of prestigious festivals and institutions in Italy – including I Concerti del Quirinale in Rome, Società del Quartetto di Milano, Amici della Musica di Reggio Emilia, Festival Paesaggi Musicali Toscani, Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Nuova Consonanza, Società del Quartetto di Bergamo, and Amur – the quartet has also performed in Germany (Heidelberger Frühling, Podium Festival, Goslar Musikwochen), Switzerland, France, Ireland, Kuwait, Latvia, Sweden, Portugal, Spain, and the Netherlands. Since 2017 it has been Quartet in Residence with the Milano Classica orchestra; from 2017 until 2024 it was also Quartet in Residence at the Festival Paesaggi Musicali Toscani. It is the promoter of the format Qu.B.E. (Quartet Based Ensemble).
Quartetto Indaco collaborates with artists such as Alexander Lonquich, Alessandro Taverna, Giovanni Bietti, David Krakauer, Mao Fujita, Avi Avital, Julian Bliss, Uri Caine, and Claudia Barainsky. After training with renowned mentors including Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet), Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartet), Reiner Schmidt (Hagen Quartet), and Eberhard Feltz, the ensemble has become a significant presence on the international chamber music scene and will make its debut at Wigmore Hall in London in September 2025.
