Born in Madrid, Alfonso González Barquín studied in Spain with José Miguel Sambartolomé and Luis González, and in Germany with Reinhold Friedrich and Laura Vukobratovic. He specialized in France with Pierre Thibaud and in the United States with Thomas Hooten.
During his studies he was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and the Ibero-American Youth Orchestra (conducted by Gustavo Dudamel), and as an academy participant of the Düsseldorfer Symphony Orchestra.
He played with the Mozart Orchestra of Bologna under the direction of Claudio Abbado and with the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra directed by Daniel Barenboim. He has collaborated as principal trumpet with various orchestras: Duisburger Philharmoniker and Mannheim National Theater Orchestra in Germany, Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, National Orchestra of Belgium, KBS Symphony of Seoul, South Korea, Baroque Orchestra of Freiburg.
He was first trumpet soloist of the Brussels Philharmonic in Belgium and since 2018 he holds the same position in the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Alfonso teaches at the “Musikene” Superior Conservatory of Music of San Sebastián in Spain.
