Shira Majoni

VIOLA

Violist of Italian origin, Shira Majoni grew up in a family of musicians. In 2013 she was awarded the Top Prize for viola and the Special Prize for the best interpretation of an Israeli composition at the Aviv Competition in Israel. She has played at the Jerusalem International Chamber Music Festival, the Ravinia Festival, the Caramoor Rising Stars and the Open Chamber Music in Prussia Cove, collaborating with artists such as Miriam Fried, Ralph Kirshbaum, Daishin Kashimoto, Wolfram Christ and Rainer Honeck. She was guest cellist of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and in May 2019 she joined the Munich Philharmonic section for the 2019/2020 season. She has performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, at the Colon Theater in Buenos Aires, at the Philharmonie in Berlin, at the Conservatory Hall in Moscow and at the Seoul Arts Center. In 2008 she joined the West Eastern Divan Orchestra: under the guidance of Daniel Barenboim she performed at the London Proms, at the Salzburg and Lucerne Festivals and recorded the Beethoven symphonic cycle. As part of the "Musicians Without Borders" project she toured with Winds of Change in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia and Montenegro, previewing an opera dedicated to her by Guillermo Lago, El Mar y El Amor. She graduated from the Jerusalem Music Center and earned a PhD in Music from the Buchman-Mehta School of Music in Tel Aviv, where she studied with Chaim Taub. You have recently graduated from the Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin.
