Massimo Popolizio

Massimo Popolizio, actor and voice actor, took his first steps in theater with Luca Ronconi, with whom he collaborated for twenty years. Graduated from the Silvio d'Amico Academy, he made a name for himself in Italian cinema with "My brother is an only child", "Romanzo Criminale", "Il Divo" and "Era d'estate" by Fiorella Infascelli for which he won the Nastro d'Argento 70th anniversary Special Edition. In 2018 he starred in Luca Miniero's film entitled “I'm back”, where he plays the character of Benito Mussolini. In 2019 he is the demanding President of the Rome Football Club in "Il Campione", first work by Leonardo D'Agostini, and the former politician in "Welcome back President" directed by Giancarlo Fontana and Giuseppe G. Stasi. In the same year he is in the film “Il primo Natale” directed by Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone.
Winner of the Nastro d'Argento for dubbing "Hamlet", he voiced Lord Voldemort in "Harry Potter", Tom Cruise in "Eyes Wide Shut" and Lionel Abelanski (Shlomo) in "Train de vie". In 1995 he won an Ubu Award as best actor for William Shakespeare's “King Lear” and “Verso Peer Gynt” inspired by Henrik Ibsen's Peer Gynt; he was again awarded in 2001 for Carlo Goldoni's “The two Venetian Twins”.
In 2006 he received the Eschilo d'Oro, awarded to him by the INDA. In 2008 he won the E.T.I. Gli Olimpici del Teatro (Vicenza) prize as best leading actor for "Ritter, Dene, Voss" by Thomas Bernhard.
In 2015 with Luca Ronconi's "Lehman Trilogy" he won the Ubu Award as best actor of the year. In 2016 he made his directorial debut with Arthur Miller's "Il Prezzo" and then with "Ragazzi di vita" by Pier Paolo Pasolini with which he won several awards: Best Show of the Year and Best Direction - Le Maschere del Teatro Italiano 2017 and the 2017 UBU Award for Best Director.
In the 2017/2018 season he staged the show "Copenhagen" directed by Mauro Avogadro and in 2018 he made his opera directorial debut with Giuseppe Verdi's "I Masnadieri" at the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. In the theatrical season 2018/2019 he resumes the show "Copenhagen" and will later be director and interpreter of the show "An Enemy of the People" by Henrik Ibsen.
