Santuario della Madonna di Monserrato

Porto Azzurro

The Madonna di Monserrato, Sanctuary, near Porto Azzurro, offers one of the most spectacular views of the Island of Elba.

Perched on a rocky outcrop amid cypress trees, agaves and Mediterranean scrubland, the Sanctuary of Madonna di Monserrato is one of the most enchanting and evocative places on Elba Island. From here, sweeping views open onto the valley below, in a landscape where nature, history and spirituality come together, while the silence is accompanied by the gentle, continuous murmur of flowing streamlets.

Built in 1606 by the Spanish governor José Pons y León as an ex voto offering to the Virgin of Montserrat, the sanctuary takes both its name and inspiration from the famous Catalan shrine. To this day, it retains a peaceful and contemplative atmosphere, making it a cherished destination for visitors and pilgrims alike.
