The Roman Villa delle Grotte is one of the rare architectural remnants on Elba that have not undergone any substantial changes. It was built to have an unhampered view of the city, the marine traffic and to show the power and wealth of its owners.
A path, framed by traditional Roman plants and trees, leads to the ruins of the villa, where one can imagine a majestic porch, an ancient spa, a swimming pool once choreographed with spectacular water games. The view of the Portoferraio bay is breathtaking.
