The historic heart of Sant’Ilario in Campo, one of Elba Island’s most charming medieval villages and the birthplace of composer Giuseppe Pietri, Piazza della Chiesa lies within the ancient Pisan fortress that overlooks the village. Built in local granite, the square enjoys an extraordinary panorama stretching across the Gulf of Marina di Campo and, on the clearest days, as far as the island of Montecristo.
Surrounding the square is the authentic fabric of the village, with its narrow granite-paved lanes, flower-lined stairways and historic houses that preserve the charm of centuries past. Dominated by the Parish Church of Sant’Ilario, rich in frescoes and built upon an earlier fortified Romanesque structure, the square provides an intimate and evocative setting for Festival events, where music meets the history and most authentic identity of Elba Island.
