DIE CELLISTEN DES MOZARTEUM SALZBURG (“The Cellists of the Mozarteum”) is a group of young, but already established musicians, students of the prestigious University of Salzburg led and directed by Giovanni Gnocchi, inspired by the model of Sándor Végh with his Camerata Salzburg.

In recent years they have become individually participants in the major international competitions throughout Europe and the United States, with orchestras of an international profile and playing alongside famous soloists. As a cello group they have held important concerts in Austria and Italy, performing at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, at the Festival Trame Sonore (Mantua), at Spazio Novecento (Cremona), enjoying soulful and overwhelming success, and always offering a unique repertoire, which combines refined rarities, some of the most popular pages of the Viennese classicism and the famous Hollywood soundtracks. Concerts with music by Monteverdi, Gesualdo and John Dowland combined with pages by Pierre Boulez, Krzysztof Penderecki and Sofia Gubaidulina, to end with the evergreens of Ennio Morricone, Hans Zimmer, Astor Piazzolla or Carlos Gardel.

The Mozarteum Cellos also participate in the concerts that exploit the stage as a playhouse and in a spatially original way, thus establishing a direct, ironic and engaging dialogue with the audience.
