David Chen Sverdov was born in 2008 into a family of musicians. His father is pianist and composer Vladimir Sverdlov Ashkenazy, and his mother, Lyda Chen Argerich, is a lawyer and viola player.
David discovered the piano with Professor Elena Ashkenazy, his grandmother. At the age of five and a half, he began piano lessons and studied for ten years under Professor Serguei Milstein.
David gave his first concert performance at the 2016 Lugano Progetto Argerich, playing four hands with his famous grandmother, Martha Argerich. He participated in the 2019 Swiss Youth Music Competition and received First Prize with Distinction in the Finals. David also obtained First Prize with Distinction in the 2018 and 2020 editions of the International Karl Adler Jugend Competition in Stuttgart, and Second Prize at the Concours International de Piano de Genthod, Geneva.
He has performed recitals and chamber music programmes in venues such as the Victoria Hall in Geneva, Switzerland, the KKL Luzern, the Beppu Beacon Hall in Japan, the Château de Chantilly in France, the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg, Germany, the National Theatres of Guangzhou and Nanjing, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre in China.
Following his debut as a soloist with orchestra at the Liederhalle Stuttgart, Germany, in 2022, David performed at the Salle Franz Liszt and Victoria Hall in Geneva, Switzerland, as well as at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in Singapore. In 2026, David performed Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Bangkok and at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay in Singapore, as well as Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos at Victoria Hall in Geneva.
He has participated in various masterclasses, benefiting from the teachings of Professors Mira Marchenko, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Arie Vardi and Sir Stephen Kovacevich, among others.
David attended the pre-college programme of the Haute École de Musique de Genève under Professor Mladen Tcholitch. He is currently studying at the Musica Mundi School of Music while continuing to perform in Europe and Asia.
