Born in Florence in 1972, he studied at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and graduated with top honors from the “L. Cherubini” Conservatory. At a young age, he won numerous national competitions and in 1991 joined the Italian Youth Orchestra as Principal Double Bass.
Among his early orchestral experiences, from 1991 to 2000 he played with the ORT – Orchestra Regionale Toscana and the ORT Soloists, and from 2000 to 2002 he collaborated with the Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, participating in numerous tours under the baton of Zubin Mehta.
In 2002, he was personally selected by Lorin Maazel as Principal Double Bass of the Filarmonica Toscanini (later Symphonica Toscanini), a position he held until 2010. With this orchestra, he toured globally, performing in prestigious halls such as Tonhalle Zürich, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Avery Fisher Hall New York, Chicago Symphony Hall, and Beijing Arts Center, collaborating with renowned conductors and soloists including Lorin Maazel, Yuri Temirkanov, Georges Prêtre, Zubin Mehta, Eliahu Inbal, Mstislav Rostropovich, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Valery Gergiev, Itzhak Perlman, Maxim Vengerov, and Julia Fischer.
Since 2002, he has worked as Principal Double Bass with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, under Claudio Abbado and Daniel Harding, participating in tours and recordings for Decca and Deutsche Grammophon. From 2003, he was invited by Claudio Abbado to join the Lucerne Festival Orchestra, taking part in numerous recordings and DVDs. Since 2010, he has been a guest Principal Double Bass with the Orchestre National de Lyon, performing in tours and recordings, including the complete works of Debussy.
He is also Principal Double Bass of the Orchestra Leonore, a prestigious international ensemble directed by Daniele Giorgi, and, since 2004, of I Solisti di Pavia, a chamber ensemble founded by Enrico Dindo, with whom he has toured extensively in Europe and worldwide (Saint Petersburg, Tel Aviv, Buenos Aires).
As a chamber musician, he is regularly invited to major national and international festivals, collaborating with artists such as Mario Brunello, Gidon Kremer, and Enrico Dindo.
Since 2002, he has been a member of Bass Gang, one of the world’s most acclaimed double bass ensembles, performing a repertoire ranging from classical to jazz, rock, and Latin music. With Bass Gang, he has recorded three CDs and one DVD and toured Europe and Asia, performing in prestigious venues in Japan (Suntory Hall Tokyo, Kitara Hall Sapporo, Izumi Hall Osaka, Minato Mirai Hall Yokohama), Korea (Seoul Arts Center, Aichi Arts Center), and Germany (Kammermusiksaal, Berliner Philharmonie). The ensemble has also performed as soloists with the Berliner Symphoniker and Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in programs dedicated to Verdi, Rossini, and the Neapolitan tradition.
Since 2007, he has been Professor of Double Bass at the Peri-Merulo Musical Institute in Reggio Emilia and participates in summer courses and masterclasses, both as a private teacher and as a tutor for cello and double bass sections (Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano, Italian Youth Orchestra, Youth and Chamber Orchestras of Domodossola).
He plays a Giovanni Bagatella double bass from 1786, owned by the Peri-Merulo Institute.
