Viktoria Postnikova

Viktoria POSTNIKOVA was born in Moscow into a family of musicians. Already at the age of three, she startles her family circle by her ability to reproduce straightaway with two hands at the piano and by ear the pieces that she hears her mother teach to her pupils. Her musical vocation therefore seems to raise no doubts. She is admitted to the “Moscow Central Music School”, and as early as 7, she performs for the tirst time in public with orchestra. ln the following years, she studies at the Moscow Conservatoire in Jacob Flière’s class. The many awards bestowed upon her at various international competitions (the Chopin Competition in Warsaw, the Leeds International Piano Competition in England, the Vianna da-Motta Concours in Lisbon, and finally the Tchaïkovsky Competition in Moscow) establish her reputation both in the Soviet Union and Western Europe.
Viktoria Postnikova has performed in practically all the major musical centres of Europe, Asia and America (the American press goes so far as to compare her with Vladimir Horowitz). She has appeared as soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Amsterdam Concertgebauw, the London BBC Symphony, the Boston and Cleveland Symphony Orchestras, the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestre de Paris and the French National Orchestra, and with all the most prestigious orchestras of Russia and Japan, under the baton of conductors such as Sir Adrian Boult, Sir John Barbirolli, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Simon Rattle, Kurt Masur, et Gennadi Roshdestvensky.
Amongst her countless recordings, one can find the only existing version of the complete works for piano solo by Tchaïkovsky, for Erato, the three piano concertos by Tchaïkovsky with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, for Decca, the complete solo piano works by Mussorgsky, and the five piano concertos by Prokofiev, for Melodia, as well as the Busoni, Brahms and Chopin concertos, and many others. On top of a great many recital programmes, 72 concertos feature in her repertoire of unparalled amplitude.
Aside trom her activity as soloist, Viktoria Postoikova is also a passionately devoted chamber musician. Her numerous concerts in Switzerland, England, France and Russia with such artists as Yehudi Menuhin and Julia Varady remain unforgettable for those who attended them.
