Roman Villa ‘delle Grotte’

The roman Villa “delle Grotte” is one of the rare architectual remnants on Elba that have not undergone any substantial changes.
It was built to have an unhampered view of the city, the marine traffic and to show the power and wealth of its owners.
A path, framed by traditional roman plants and trees, leads to the ruins of the villa, where one can imagine a majestic porch, an ancient spa, a swimming pool once choreograped with spectaculal water games. The panorama of the Portoferraio gulf is breathtaking.
